Welcome to three inspiring days filled with music!

 

The Summer Academy is open to both children and adults who have played piano for at least one term.

 

Participants are divided into two groups based on level:
Beginner course – for those who are beginners or have played 1–3 terms
Advanced course – for those who have played several terms and want to work on a more advanced level

Each group consists of 3–7 participants and is led by teachers from A-Vista Music School.

Course content – shared elements

Music theory & ear training:
Thorough review of the building blocks of music (scales, chords, rhythm, analysis) connected to practical piano exercises to hear, understand and play different styles of music.
Music history:
We go through important eras, composers and genres and relate them to the music we play.
Improvisation & creative work:
Everyone gets to try improvising, composing short pieces, and putting words or images to music.
Mini concert with discussion:
One of our teachers gives a short inspirational concert. Afterwards we discuss interpretation, technique, and musical expression.

Course structure – Beginner course

Practical theory:
key signatures, note reading, simple chords and rhythms
Playing exercises:
melody playing, simple chord progressions and ensemble work
Improvisation:
creating music through play supported by theory
Ear training:
finding tones and chords by ear
Music listening:
listening and recognizing styles, chords, and drawing/painting to music
Composing music:
writing simple musical ideas

Course structure – Advanced course

Theory:
note reading, harmony, functional analysis and scales
Repertoire:
in-depth analysis and interpretation of classical pieces
Improvisation:
using scales, motifs and harmony to create
Ear training:
identifying intervals, chords and melodies
Interpretation:
expression, phrasing and historical stylistic awareness
Creative work:
short compositions, arrangements and performance
